The Beginning
Thoughts from the “KARATE GUY”:
LOL…. YES, the Karate Guy! For the last 13 years or so the most common thing I heard was, “Hey, Aren’t you the Karate Guy?” I use to get offended by it thinking….”i have a name” but over time I got used to it. I owned it and i became proud of it. I proudly answered with confidence… “Yes I am” Kinda like the caped crusader saying “I’m Batman!” Its who I am…. or should I say its who I was!
Today I still get the “Hey, you’re the karate guy” question but even more so I get “Hey, your (insert kids name here’s) Dad” and with the same “I’m Batman” confidence, I proudly answer, “Yes I am!“
As a Poppa of 1 boy and 2 girls who owns a “Karate” school I get asked all of the time by parents if karate is good for girls or is it just a “boy thing“? I tell them I have both and I believe in my heart that both should take it and I believe even more so for my daughters. I usually get a confused look and always the question, “Why more so for your girls?“
Not so long ago Century Martial Arts, my supplier, put out an article titled: RAISING EMPOWERED DAUGHTERS WITH MARTIAL ARTS. Over the next few days I’m going to post 6 reasons why your daughter should take martial arts. I will give my thoughts and stories as well as post the article. Please feel free to like, comment, and share these post.
The article by Century Martial Arts:
It is a sad reality that at some point, all young children will experience challenging obstacles, whether those take the form of cyberbullying, divorcing parents, or illness in themselves or family. However, young girls in particular face a unique set of difficulties stemming simply from growing up in a world that sometimes views them differently than their male peers.
From the increasingly young age at which girls are made to feel self-conscious about their bodies, to concerns about risks of assault, martial arts offers a solution to many of the problems young girls face. You may believe that your child is still too young to have to worry about any of these issues; unfortunately, you might be surprised. However, the good news is, she is also not too young to begin training martial arts.
Although not a panacea for every gender-based problem girls and young women experience, martial arts can help equip them with some of the tools they will need in order to be prepared to face these challenges.
Starting monday we will look at 6 reasons why you SHOULD enroll you DAUGHTER in martial arts today!
A special thanks to Century Martial Arts for this amazing content in this article!
